I let Chip out of his hutch today whilst I changed his food and water. He usually runs around for about 30 minutes, gets bored, and goes back inside. Today he decided to make my life very difficult – because English weather is a glorious pain in the arse, as I returned to the hutch it started pissing down with rain. Instead of doing the sensible thing, and hopping in (or underneath) his hutch, Chip instead made a mad dash for a the pile of junk my mother allows to fester in the garden. There was absolutely no way to get him out from under it. If I approached and disturbed the debris, he just burrowed in further.
Now, this was concerning for me because not only is there a lot of dangerous stuff in that pile, there’s also a lot of ivy, which is poisonous for rabbits. I had to stand around in the rain for over an hour, and when it finally stopped bucketing it down, he came out of the junk pile. Cue a wild rabbit chase round the lawn, as he chewed on the soggy grass and resolutely refused to be caught.
Eventually, he hopped back into the hutch, drenched to the bone. I picked him up and took him inside, to dry him off. Silly thing.
