Me - Mirror

Hello world!

I’ve had a busy weekend, so here I am to tell you all about it. I went to Wolves (with Tom in tow) to stay at mummy dearest’s house. This was good news, because it meant I would actually be properly fed. I also got a chance to spend some time with Lisa.

We got back on Thursday night, far too late to do anything. The next day Lisa came round and the three of us went to town…I failed to buy anything more substantial than a Starbucks caramel cream, as usual. In the evening, rather than do something fun involving alcohol, we all went to Ikea with mum so I could pick out some things for my room…Lisa coerced me into buying a massive desk, so we spent the night putting it together. Considering I’m against manual labour as a rule, it was good fun. Here are the results:

Once all the clutter’s gone from underneath it, it’ll be a pretty good set-up. I still don’t know where my TV’s gonna go, through. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, I suppose.

Saturday was spent doing not-very-much-at-all, though we did manage a trip to Bentley Bridge in the afternoon. I went into Hobbycraft (the totalitarian regime I used to slave under) and saw Stephanie for the first time in YEARS. She hasn’t changed. I love that girl.

Sunday, Tom and I went to Wolves with my mum to get a few things…Lisa text me while we were out and about, saying she’d got her final year grades (all Bs and one A!), and so she is pretty much guaranteed a 2:1 degree. SO happy for her!! I did some calculations for my mum when we got home, and she should have a 2:1 as well. :D So now I’m nervous because I don’t think I’ve done as well as these two, and I’m scared of letting myself down. Most of me doesn’t care and is so pleased for them, but my competitive side is worried that I will walk away with a 2:2, or worse, and that would leave me rather gutted.

I had a dream about my results last night, actually. I was back at Pool Hayes, collecting my final year grades for my degree, except I’d been studying all different subjects, and not just writing. Cookery was one, drama another. I got Bs in both, but my dream-self was still desperately clinging to the hope of As so I might get a first. Does this correllate with my waking-life hopes? Yes. But I won’t get a first.

In the evening we went to Nando’s in Wolves with Lisa, and met Stacey there, who also passed her degree. So its been good news all round! :) My first Nando’s experience was pretty good, even though all I ate was chips and ice cream. YUM! :D

On Monday, my mum, Tom and myself got the train to London so we could see some tennis at Queen’s. We went last year and saw players like Hewitt and Gonzalez, and even stood within ten metres of Rafa(!!!), but this year there was nobody like that there. We had good seats though, and the tennis we saw was quite good.

Whilst walking round the grounds, we also saw a few of the seeded players practising. Blake, Shitty Andy Murray, Cilic…and the legendary Marat Safin!

Its his last year on tour, so he should probably do something crazy and kill someone. DEATH BY RACKET. That would please me.

We also went into the city centre for a bit and got a hot drink. We successfully dodged the torrent of tourists, and ate some good doughnuts. Mmhmm.

Mum

Mum, probably wishing I would put the camera away.

End of Day

It was a tiring day, but a good one. I’ve got a few things for my scrapbook, so I’m happy. My mum brought us back to Derby last night, and after sleeping like the dead, I’m now ready to tackle the monumental task that is today. I have a £60 extension order to fill, the completion of which is wholly dependent on Royal Mail (which, let’s face it, is a bad omen), and stuff to unpack and then sort through. The day of the move beckons…and oh boy, I still hate packing just as much as I did when I was eighteen, escaping Wolves for the first time. Now I’m going back, and I’ll probably never get back out.

Soul-sucking, and all that.

  1. Twas a good weekend bean. I enjoyed my first Nandos as well, Gonna eat the whole chicken next time.

Shame we didn’t see many good players at Queens but was still good to see Safin practising. Wasn’t enthralled by seeing Murray though :P .

  2. The whole chicken?! I’ll hold you to it!!

Yeahhh its a shame Rafa couldn’t make it, and it sucks that Novak saw fit to take his trade elsewhere, but ah well. The tournament on the whole is a bit of a wash-out this year. Seeing Safin is always good though, especially seeing how its our last chance to. :(
