So today Rafa began the defence of his Roland Garros (French Open) title, one which he has won for the past four consecutive years. I’m really hoping he can make it five in a row. If he finds his best tennis early on, I think he’ll be difficult to beat. He may not need a good game to defeat his opponents, however. His Nike-provided outfit this year is so blindingly bright its a wonder the poor guy facing him across the net didn’t demand sunglasses and a visor.

Sack your stylist, Rafa. I’m looking back on the days of the vest tops and pirate trousers with a sense of longing and heartache. PINK AND YELLOW? WITH BLUE NIKE TICKS? Oh dear. Even Federer, in his tasteless blue and orange ensemble, looked more appealing than El Matador. And that’s something I wouldn’t be caught dead saying, usually.
